The top adult entertainment platform, Pornhub, has added Bitcoin (BTC) and Litecoin (LTC) as crypto payment options for its premium content.
In a September 2nd tweet, the company stated:
“To further expand our cryptocurrency options for Pornhub Premium, we’re excited to announce that we now accept Bitcoin & Litecoin as payment methods!”
It should be noted that this is not the first time Pornhub is interacting with cryptocurrencies. The company has been accepting payments in the privacy-oriented coin verge (XVG) since April 2018. Pornhub later announced that it would be allowing its entertainers to be paid via Tether (USDT) stablecoin, Tron (TRX), PumaPay (PMA), and Horizen (ZEN). However, this is the first time the adult platform is exploring crypto big dogs.
Pornhub has encountered challenges with traditional payment channels in the past. For instance, in November last year, PayPal abruptly cut off Pornhub, subsequently affecting the lives of more than 100,000 models who relied on the payment system.
Could Satoshi Have Been Right All Along?
Although BTC was not exactly Pornhub’s first choice, the anonymous creator of bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, had suggested back in September of 2010 that the adult industry would be among the first to adopt the OG crypto for user payments.
At the time, Satoshi had postulated:
“Bitcoin would be convenient for people who don’t have a credit card or don’t want to use the cards they have, either don’t want the spouse to see it on the bill or don’t trust giving their number to “porn guys”, or afraid of recurring billing.”
Pornhub reported earlier this year that 10 percent of adult performers on the platform prefer to be paid in cryptocurrency. With the addition of Bitcoin and Litecoin payments, the platform can now boast a huge array of cryptocurrencies that will account for its over 3 billion monthly visits.
Notably, popular firms like Overstock and Microsoft embraced bitcoin payments as early as 2014. While Pornhub is joining the bitcoin bandwagon after 11 long years, it appears that Satoshi’s prognostication about porn commixing with bitcoin was correct.
